but i still want the video recording... it's so interesting to see all the little details, for which later they'll "get some" by their image makers

media rules the world today, and visuals are very important... often they mean much more than actions and words... unfortunately (or maybe fortunately.. )

USA is not what you called it! I would agree if you mean the candidates to the leadership!

What happens to people in the USA is that they are mostly intoxicated by the media with what is convenient for the leaders (candidates to be) they support!

You didn't really miss much. Bush looked so stupid, it was ridiculous! He was keep looking at some paper that he had down there (must be the answers to the questions that were already written for him beforehand) and if there was an unexpected question or he had to reply to what Kerry said, he would get all confused and didn't know what to say and would just stay silent for seconds. First of all, unfortunately I haven’t seen the debates. Yes, unfortunately, I will explain why so. This was an important event in world politics, because US foreign policy often shapes the general political ‘weather’ all over the world, especially in ‘developing countries’ such as ours, and others. Before expressing my own opinion I have to go through the transcript of the debate (haven’t had time yet), and hopefully see the taped version. But there are some things that I wanted to say…

All I wanted, was your opinion about the debate itself, about the organization, and the behavior of the candidates. I don’t think that either Bush or Kerry said anything new about their policies (hm… ).

Well, actually I might have not missed much if you think of it directly. On the other hand, if you pay attention to details that are often ignored by the majority you might see many interesting things. First of all the fist thing, which is obvious… Kerry’s campaign only a month ago was all about domestic issues such as the fed. deficit, unemployment, outsourcing, etc, and suddenly Iraq is one of the dominating issues on agenda. Why so…?

If one followed the news carefully there are several reasons. One, is the changes that occurred in his team (sorry, don’t remember the names, and too lazy to look up on the net), which shifted his main strategist’s focus, which was to refrain from bold attacks towards pres. Bush on Ntnl Security issues.

As a rule the first debate between candidates of the presidential campaign gets the most attention. The one that went on air on Sept. 30, 2004, was initially scheduled to cover domestic issues, but Bush team did a good job on switching the focus towards foreign policy. White House stands tall on this issue (at least they think so). Since Kerry’s campaign focus shifted relatively not long ago, he was basically doomed to lose the first debate. And not only time was against him, but also his own words. When Senate was deciding whether to launch the war or not, Kerry voted FOR, while now he’s suddenly against it. (There’s a ‘infamous’ quote of Kerry’s, that today Bush often uses in his speeches about this issue, as soon as I have internet, will post it here.. anyway). Also there’s the Vietnam ‘bogus’…

And the fact that he kept looking at ‘some paper’ is not as bad as you make it sound. It shows only that he didn’t learn his answers well. All, or at least most, political leaders in 99% of the cases say not what they think, but what their image makers, and staff speech-writers tell them to, in accordance with cabinet policy, etc. I am almost sure that both Bush and Kerry knew beforehand approximately what questions they would be asked by Lehrer. This is how politics works. Most of what we see is just a show, as Red Stone (sorry, don’t know your name) mentioned in another topic - leaders of the world “do anything for getting noticed”… this is our reality, and we should either accept it, or try and change it. (…one of my professors used to say about writing, “It’s not like you don’t have a choice, because you do – you can either type or kill yourself.”)

In the end just want to say, that Bush’s campaign managers did a great job. Bush is not a good leader, but it’s all about PR, and his team managed to keep him in shadows, while Kerry is constantly in the spotlight…

Ps: all above is my humble opinion, and am not planning to quarrel for life with anyone, unless the issue is extremely interesting

the "only" thing that i hate about the debates is that just after you've seen the whole thing there goes all these little shows telling you what you've just seen, it's honestly retarded, they think americans are so stupid, well some of them are 100%, but then it's so redundant, i cant believe it. so anyway, i agree they didnt say anything new, beside just a note, this was by the way United States' presidential debate but het, all they were talking about was damn iraq, it's like this country is free of any problems and is absolutly convinced in its confindence in helping out another country spending billions of dollars. gosh i wish something like that happens to armenia so we at least can benefit from it,. that was dumb but in any case, i hate the dabetes and everything about presidential elections, it's all SHOW behind everything, media rules, it will for long. if ou just listen to the bull**** they said over and over and over, i mean come one ,it's pathetic, ,,,. rrr,,
oh yeah, my american friends were making fun of bush saying that while kerry was taking these serious notes about what bush said, bush was drawing revange and hatefull pictures of kerry, like kerry with a label "pooppy head" .,everybody seems to hate bush in my school. i agree
