Per capita income is very low by international standards; rates of unemployment and emigration are high; financial system remains rudimental; domestic savings and foreign investment are inadequate to maintain ailing infrastructure and provide basis for solid long-term growth. Given the complex nature of these problems, it remains to be seen whether the economy will experience faster and broader-based growth, by capitalizing on the nation's skilled labor force, and human, intellectual, and financial potential of Armenian Diaspora. To address these issues and discuss policy options, the Armenian International Policy Research Group will host an international conference on: Armenia: Recent Economic Trends and Growth Prospects The conference will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2003 in the World Bank headquarters in Washington, DC. While papers from all areas of relevance for growth and development are welcome, preference will be given to the following broad topics: Macroeconomic Policies Financial Sector Policies Governance and Public Sector Reforms Diaspora's Role and Channels of Involvement Human Capital and Emigration FDI and Industrial Policies Trade and Regional Cooperation Prospective authors should submit papers and/or abstracts by December 1, 2002 to <aiprg.conference@armpolicyresearch.org>. Authors of accepted papers will be notified by the Selection Committee by December 15, 2002. The Selection Committee of the conference will be chaired by: David Joulfaian, US Department of Treasury Lev Freinkman, The World Bank Ann-Margret Westin, International Monetary Fund All participants, including authors, may register on-line by visiting http://www.armpolicyresearch.org/Sem...istration.htm. The final agenda along with the list of confirmed papers will be circulated by January 1, 2003. The official language of the conference is English.
