YEREVAN, AUGUST 27. ARMINFO. There is no mention of Kars or any other Turkish territories in either the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia or the Declaration on RA Independence of Aug 23 1990. To remind, during his recent meeting with the mayor of the Turkish city of Kars German Ambassador to Turkey Wolf Born said: "As far as I know Kars and nearby territories are part of Armenia according to that country's Constitution." This is what the Russian news agency Regnum reports referring to Dunden Bugue Terjuman. The Turkish newspaper reports Born as saying that he did not read it in the Armenian Constitution himself but heard that there is such a point there.

To avoid possible interpretations of RA Constitution in the future ARMINFO news agency is urging Mr Born to familiarize himself with the text of RA Constitution at http://www.president.am/library/eng/?task=41&id=1 and with the text of Declaration on Armenia's Independence at http://www.parliament.am/hdoc/Laws/ru/9t9w4k.html

In her interview to the Radio Free Europe, Heike Peitsch stated that her colleague in Turkey did not make this statement in the context presented by the Turkish mass media. The Turkish mass media distorted the Ambassador's statement, and he demanded a correction. Wolf Born is a professional and cannot have made such a statement, Heike Peitsch said.
