Civic Education Instructor - CCDI Civic Educators Corps

THE CENTER FOR COMMUNITY DIALOGUES AND INITIATIVES (CCDI)

Job Title: Civic Education Instructor

Location: Kapan, Lori , Armenia

Position Reports To: The CCDI Executive Director

This is a full-time position based in CCDI's Kapan office and in Lori office

Summary of the position: The Civic Education Instructor will be part of the CCDI Civic Educators Corps, which, as of March 01, 2004, includes 22 instructors in 8 regions of the Republic of Armenia. As part of a two-person team working in the region which he/she has been assigned, the Civic Education Instructor will conduct and foster discussion groups, citizen initiative groups, advocacy campaigns and volunteer actions; distribute civic education information materials and Community Council reports; promote dialogues between local residents, authorities, businesses and non-governmental organizations; organize election debates and other voter education activities; and provide opportunities for citizen feedback on legislative initiatives. The Civic Education Instructor is based in the region, which he/she has been assigned but may from time to time be called on to travel to other regions. This is a full-time position. The work of the Civic Education Instructor is evaluated annually by the Executive Director with input from the Project Coordinator.


Responsibilities:

· Organize advocacy campaigns and volunteer actions;

· distribute civic education information materials and Community Council reports; promote dialogues between local residents, authorities, businesses and non-governmental organizations;

· organize election debates and other voter education activities; and provide opportunities for citizen feedback on legislative initiatives

· Support the works of the anticorruption group in the marz

· Complete, in a timely fashion, all reporting requirements for the CCDI Civic Educators Corps.

· Maintain program files and complete other administrative functions, connected to running the region’s office for CCDI Instructors and the regional resource center.

· Manage CCDI summer interns and other volunteers in his/her office.

· Prepare and provide the anticorruption group with information and consultation

· Participate in all training and planning sessions for the CCDI Civic Educators Corps.

If the instructor has an own car and is willing to lease it to CCDI, he (she) should sign a “Leasing” contract and ride the leased car. The instructor will not get an additional payment for driving the car.


Desired Qualifications

· Higher education.

· Experience in at least one of the following fields: law, local self-government, advocacy, or community development.

· Preferred: training experience.

· Demonstrated knowledge of political, social and economic developments in Armenia. Knowledge about democratic transition and local governance, the laws of Armenia, and civil society development in Armenia.

· Oral and written fluency in Armenian and Russian. Also, preferred but not required: English fluency – written and spoken.

· Demonstrated computer skills for databases and spreadsheets (Excel) and text documents (Word) and Internet.

· Preferred: Ownership of a car and possession of a driver’s license.

· Ability to set priorities, organize time and work independently at several tasks at once.

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

· Ability to work in a team environment.
