Title: Project Coordinator


Center for Health Services Research and Development of the American University of Armenia is recruiting Project Coordinator for an anticipated 2-year CRDF-funded project aimed to implement a pilot HIV-risk reduction behavioral intervention for female sex workers in Yerevan:



Duration: 18 months (tentative start date: January 2007). It is a part-time position: level of efforts devoted to the project – 75%.



Specific responsibilities
The project coordinator will provide technical oversight of the project and be responsible for coordinating all activities within the project. S/he must:

§ assist the project director/principal investigator in selecting and training the outreach workers;

§ ensure that required sample of participants is enrolled in the project at baseline (160) / required sample of participants remains in the project for the 9-months follow-up assessment (100);

§ arrange for all proposed conditions and services (including: a proper office is rented for project activities; the outreach workers, health educators, surveyors and consultants on STI and legal issues are available when needed; incentives preferred by participants are in place and properly distributed) to be in place/available throughout the intervention and evaluation phases of the project;

§ be able to stay in the project office during those hours (2-7 pm) and days (including weekends) when sex workers choose to come for intervention/assessment;

§ obtain the informed consent and maintain the identifying information on project participants;

§ provide health education either to the intervention group (HIV-risk reduction module) or to the control group (healthy nutrition module);

§ take notes at focus group discussions and enter the qualitative data.



The Project Coordinator’s immediate supervisor is the Project Director/Principal Investigator.



Requirements/Qualifications
MPH degree or equivalent
Strong previous experience in reaching out to sex workers
A thorough knowledge and understanding of HIV/AIDS issues
A thorough knowledge on behavioral sciences/health education and experience in behavioral interventions
Understanding of human subject protection/bioethics issues
A thorough knowledge on behavioral sciences/health education and experience in behavioral interventions
Creativity /ability to find solutions in challenging situations
Leadership skills
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work in team
Ability to mentor less experienced team members
Ability to work overtime and when needed
