The International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX), a Washington-based
international non-profit organization that manages exchange and professional
training programs in Central and Eastern Europe and Eurasia, is
administering a grant from the US Department of State's Bureau of
Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA), which entails a two-year lower
middle school curriculum development and teacher training program in
Armenia.

The 2001 Middle School Curriculum Development and Teacher Training Program
focuses on updating both the curriculum and training for Mid-level teachers
in Armenia. The program is constructed around the development and pilot
testing of three products: a guide for training middle school curriculum
specialists; draft model social science courses for the fourth, fifth, and
sixth grades; and a middle school teaching methodology handbook. The
ultimate goal of the program is to strengthen the capacity of Armenia's
middle schools and teachers.

IREX currently seeks to fill the free-lance positions of TRANSLATORS for the
Middle School Curriculum Development and Teacher Training Program for
Armenia.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Translating from English into Armenian the three products developed by
program specialists;
- Editing the translated products;
- Conducting regular meetings and discussions with the program specialist
and other translators working on the translation of the products to ensure
accuracy of language, style and terminology.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Excellent command of English and Armenian languages;
- Previous professional experience as a translator;
- Knowledge and understanding of the educational system of Armenia,
- Communication skills, high accuracy and feeling of responsibility;
- Ability to meet pressing deadlines.
