Одна из моих самых любимых групп, и лучшая, на мой взгляд, в своем направлении "арт-рок". Их каждая нота - осмыслена, каждый аккорд - концептуален. У них нет пустых/бессмысленных фраз. О их лирике можно говорить и говорить часами (правда лучше читать и слушать), я же скажу только одно - она гениальна!

Молодец, FC!!! Я сам собирался сегодня постнуть такой топик! Полностью согласен со всем сказанным выше. Безусловно гениальная группа с осмысленной лирикой и чертовски хорошей и глубокой музыкой(хотя и, возможно, чересчур мрачной и депрессивной).

Dance in Sand and Sea

So here we are, or rather, here I am, quite alone,

I'm seeing things that were shared before, long ago ...

my memory stretches and I am dazed: you know I know

how good the time was and how I laughed ..

Times have changed, now you're far away, I can't complain:

I had all my chances but they slipped right through my hands - like so much sand;

I know I'll never dance like I used to



I'll just wait till day breaks upon the land and the sea.

hoping that I can catch all of the memories,

then I must crawl off upon my way, all of me

listening hard for the final words.

But there are none; the sunrise calls, I've lingered on

too close for comfort and I don't know quite why

I feel like crying -

I know we'll never dance like we used to.



I look up, I'm almost blinded by the warmth of what's inside me

and the taste that's in my soul,

but I'm dead inside as I stand alone ....

I wore my moods like so many different sets of clothes

but the right one was never around;

and as you left I heard my body ring

and my mind began to howl

It was far to late to contemplate the meaning of it all:

You know that I need you, but somehow I don't think

At some point I lost you, I don't know quite how it was;

The wonderland lay in a coat of white, chilling frost

I looked around and I found I was truly lost:

without your hand in mine I am dead .....

Reality is unreal and games I've tried just aren't the same:

I know I've never cried as I'm about to ...



If I could just frame the words that would make your fire burn

all this water now around me could be the love that

Looking out through the tears that bind me

У меня есть 6 дисков, ну плюс еще с десяток файлов из интернета.

To Hov>> А у меня было наоборот. Лет пять назад, когда я впервые осмысленно слушал Yes, Альбомы мне начинали нравится как минимум с 3-его прослушивания. А VDGG тогда же мне понравился сразу(то же самое могу сказать про Gentle Giant).

Здорово, что топик о VDGG появился-таки... но позвольте не согласиться с теми, кто называет их Арт-рок группой...это, на мой взгляд, - Чистейшей Воды Психоделия , причем какая!!! А между артом и психоделией существует огромная разница. Хоть эти два направления нередко бывают связаны между собой, перенимают элементы (как принято выражаться) друг друга, однако ж обладают различными свойствами воздействия на слушателя, носят принципиально разный характер. Если в Gentle Giant я, как давнишний их почитатель, улавливаю в почти равной степени струи как арта, так и психоделии, то в музыке VDGG, в отличие, скажем, от тех же самых Yes, явно преобладает психоделия: целевое воздействие именно на подсознание, направленный вглубь наших с вами светлых мозгов энергетический заряд а'ля Dark_romanticism_mood. Никак не совладающая с биссерно-рассыпными классическими пассажами многих арт-рок групп мрачность VDGG с самого первого прослушивания повергла меня в некое состояние прострации, из которой я не выходила много дней, в которой чувствовала себя беззащитной, невероятно маленькой с одной стороны и защищенной своебразным коконом - с другой. Что это: самовнушение? гипер-чувствительность? повышенная эмоциональност? полет фантазии? Все вышеперечисленное таит в себе необъятная и необъяснимая вселенная VDGG. The killer lives inside me: yes, I can feel him move....The angels live inside me: I can feel them smile... Дуальность лирики VDGG, наравне с глубокой депрессивностью их воистину магической музыки всецело поглотила меня, она расширила мой мир настолько, что я сама затерялась в нем. И, кажется, в безысходности я нашла и сам потайной выход, выход из пустоты Всего в бескрайность Ничто.

To Belka>> Все, что ты написала - верно, но позволь заметить, что, на мой взгляд, в них есть как психоделия, так и арт. Дело просто в том, что вообще, в целом, распределение таких исполнителей как VDGG или Arthur Brown на стили практически невозможно. Или, скажем, мой любимый Pink Floyd - что это за стиль? Принято считать их психоделией, с чем я категорически не согласен, так как после 1972-ого года психоделии у них столько же, сколько и у Led Zeppelin. Еще принято считать Флойд артроком, с чем я тоже не согласен - где же здесь артрок? То же самое и Van Der Graaf - у них свой неповторимый стиль.
Короче говоря разделение на стили очень шатко и неоднозначно, и фиг с ним.
Главное, чтобы музыка хорошая была, а этого у Van Der Graaf Generator не отнять!
