Presented byThomas Carothers Friday, October 13, 18:00 Mr. Thomas Carothers is Vice President for International Politics and Governance at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Washington, D.C. He oversees the Endowment’s programs and directs the Democracy and Rule of Law Project, which analyzes the state of democracy around the world. Widely recognized as a leading international authority on democracy promotion, he has worked on democracy assistance projects for many public and private organizations and carried out extensive field research on democracy-building programs in Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union, Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. Mr. Carothers also has significant experience in the fields of development, human rights, comparative politics, international institutions, and foreign aid and is the author of several major books on democracy promotion, including the forthcoming Confronting the Weakest Link: Aiding Political Parties in New Democracies. He has also written many articles in major international journals and newspapers. Mr. Carothers is a recurrent visiting professor in the Legal Studies Department of the Central European University in Budapest. He serves on advisory boards of the Center for Global Development, the Open Society Institute, and Democratization. Mr. Carothers is a graduate of Harvard Law School and the London School of Economics. Mr. Carothers is in Armenia at the invitation of the Open Society Institute Armenia Foundation.
