A slight correction though: Gmail supports the following email clients:

Outlook Express and Outlook 2002 (and older) (Windows)
Outlook Express and Outlook 2002 (and older) (Mac)
Outlook 2003
Entourage 2004
Entourage X
Eudora 5.1 (and higher) (Sponsored & Paid Mode)
Eudora 5.1 (and higher) (Light Mode)
Netscape Mail 7.x
Netscape Mail 6.2
Netscape Mail 4.5, 4.6, or 4.7
Apple Mail
Mozilla 1.7
Thunderbird 0.x

For other mail clients, provided they support user authentication for sending messages, here go the instructions.

You can use the following information to configure POP. If you encounter difficulties, we suggest contacting your mail client's customer support department for further instructions.

Incoming Mail (POP3) Server – requires SSL
pop.gmail.com
Use SSL: Yes
Port: 995
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server – requires TLS
smtp.gmail.com (use authentication)
Use Authentication: Yes
Use STARTTLS: Yes (some clients call this SSL)
Port: 465 or 587
Account Name: your Gmail username (including '@gmail.com')
Email Address: your full Gmail email address (username@gmail.com)
Password: your Gmail password

Please be advised that, not using "The Bat!" I don't know if this covers it...

Hi again!

I've got a problem with portuguese characters, when sending messages from my Gmail account using Outlook 2003. After struggling a lot found out the solution, so I'm sharing it with you (who generally use some different characters, I suppose).

Make Tools-> Options -> Mail Format -> International Options
Remove tick on "Auto select encoding for outgoing messages".
Click OK on that and all windows previously open, and you're done!

Enabled POP3 in gmail and checking my mail with TheBat.
