437 | Hi ... In terms of ease-of-development, DreamWeaver fares much better than FrontPage. Some of the features provided by DW do simplify development but are not avaialable in FrontPage: -script color-coding (provided in FrontPage but not as extensive as DW) -context menus that help you autocomplete property definitions -automatic creation of a new style each time you modify an existing style -support for split panes (code and design) -properties window for faster access to element properties -cross-browser compatability checks ...and many more If frankly, I am not associated with Macromedia in any way - just a happy user. ![]()

| панаехавший | I wonder if one must really consider using any of those programs. They create a whole lot of junk html code, stuff you can write ten times shorter if you're doing it by hand. Anyway, whenever I'm working with HTML, no matter the fancy things, I need to have a handy grip on the code itself and be able to do the low level editing any minute. I personally use frontpage and I find it very convenient, though sometimes it gets the better of me becoming stubborn and re-editing the code I just wrote.

372 | Never been using such software and I god help me never use this in future, just some of my friends was in need of such software and I've found Macromedia Contribute for him. It was pretty easy and with minimum functionality that is required for one to create fancy looking content in short time. Cheers.

| Banned | I only use DreamWeaver for coding and it's the one of the best for such issues. I didn't use FrontPage since version 2.0 and don't know anything about its current advantages, but I'm pretty much happy having both Visual InterDev and Macromedia DreamWeaver so I really don't need anything else. For programming in ASP I use Visual InterDev, for PHP - Dreamweaver. |

437 | Of course, once you've gotten used to one of those two, it's hard to switch ... Though when people mention FP - it always means excess coding, and a clunky interface .... IMHO: another reason/pro for DW is that it's easier to hand code, and DW has a reference built in. Very handy... M$ FP 2003 does not have this feature yet ... The main advantage of DW, though, is that you have more chance of a job with it. Most Web Developing companies will expect you to know HTML/CSS maybe JavaScript/ASP/PHP, and one WYSIWYG, no knowledge of the coding, can seriously decrease the chances of getting a job... BTW, have you guys also done some WYISWYG work with Adobe Go-Live? What's your opinion?

| Николай Константинович | Dreamweaver is a great program as for me. I agree with Obelix about junk html code, but code from DW is something perfect in comparison with FrontPage. Sure, no program is able to write the code better than a person does, but what about time, it is much easier to use DW, write the code with it and later correct it, i look through the code all the time, and great part of the code is rewritten, but anyhow using DW you can manage your time better, as for me.
