Dear Subscriber ,
Greetings. My name is Matt Nickson and I am a l aw student at the
University of Texas and a weekly columnist for the university student
newspaper, the Daily Texan. My heritage is
Armenian.
On Monday, I wrote a column opposing Turkish admission to the European
Union. It is available at
http://www.dailytexanonline.com/medi...-1014864.shtml.
Since then, I have received a flood of responses from angry Turkish
writers, located both across the United States and in Turkey. I have
received a large number of e-mails sent yesterday
evening and this morning. Almost all share a denial of the fact of the
Armenian Genocide. Others attack Greece. Several have been posted online
(but none so far have appeared in print) as letters to the editor, and
more have been posted on the article\'s comment board,
at
http://www.dailytexanonline.com/main...&forum_id=2778.
Lamentably, very few Armenians have spoken up (I have received one e-mail
from a student with an Armenian last name), and I fear the dialogue is
slanting in favor of Genocide Denial.
I would appreciate it if you might consider writing a letter to the editor
(
[email protected]) or posting a comment yourselves.
We need balance here, desperately.
Very truly yours,
Matthew Nickson
