SANTA MARIA, California (CNN) -- Michael Jackson pleaded not guilty Friday to child molestation charges that include accusations of child abduction, false imprisonment and extortion.
The 10-count indictment included one count of conspiracy that carried the abduction, imprisonment and extortion charges.
The indictment, which remained sealed, also included four counts of lewd acts involving a minor child, one count involving an attempted lewd act upon a child, four counts of administering an intoxicating agent.
The indictment, which effectively bypassed the need for a public, full-scale preliminary hearing of the evidence against Jackson, was returned by a grand jury last week.
The indictment represents an expansion of charges from what Jackson had previously faced. In January the 45-year-old singer pleaded not guilty to seven counts of lewd acts on a child under the age of 14 and two counts of plying him with alcohol.
