I think the point there was the fewer graphical controls on a screen the better for a stubborn user looking for a real automation in any GUI ... I myself like dialogs with Ok or Wizard that bring to the next set of commands ... tabs are confusing too ...
Customers do not like internals, just results!!! Sad, but true ...
