Po mnogim prichinam... nepravil&noye pitaniye, kureniye, alcohol, drugs, certain prescription drugs, ageing... these are outer factors but i'm sure medical encyclopedia will better answer the technical part of the question.
Aids and other viruses also can damage immune system. Loss of immune system is the inability of the body to fight with foreign microorganism that practically bombard you constantly. It's interesting to note that people do not die of aids, it's usually some other, very often minor desease or inflamation, like flue that causes the death.

I just thought about something else though, with age you actually acquire immunitet- although this is a different immunity i'm talking about- you become more or less immune to lies, to the ugliness, stop noticing things that used to drive you crazy. You're no longer hurt easil, you become immune to emotional pain, you lose your naivity, you become cynical... I'd like to know what causes THIS though.

Слишком много имуннитета тоже вредно. Белые клетки начинают нападать на свои же собственные клетки и начинаются так называемые аутосомные болезни, Если нападают на суставные клетки начинаются артриты, аллергия тоже вообщем то результат черезчур агрессивной имунной системы..
Имунитет это как бы МВД организма.. если она не хорошо следит за внутренным порядком организма то криминальность и нелегальная имиграция растет.. всякие бактерии и вирусы витворяут всякие бесчинства в организме.. а если слишком сильно следят за порядком то страдают простые клетки
