All About Armenia a.k.a. AAA

I am preparing a report about Armenia for the second graders in our local school. The report has to be concise and fun and positive. I have to present facts about culture, music, science, art, culinary preferences and favorite holidays of the peoples of Armenia. I am looking for as much information as possible. Thought you might be willing to help! You may remember the favorite Armenian tale from your childhood (mine is The Death of Kikos), or maybe the game that you liked to play with your friends and family. The information that I want to present has to be of relevance and interest to children of 7 and 8 years of age.

well, I think one of the most unique Armenian holidays that children can be interested in is Vartavar. That's a nice "game", which has become a holiday. or vice versa?

Mila , find a book of Tumanyan's Hekeyats in English , it is full of wonderful Armenian children's fairy tails , i am sure some one in your area of USA has a copy

O.K., I found a story of Kikos in English on the web. I'll have to render it a bit to downsize the story. I also have a great idea on how to introduce the Armenian alphabet and the artists Sarian and Khandjan through coloring pages.
Now, does anyone know any famous Armenian Scientist?
What about the culinary preferences?
Fibi pointed out Vardevar, I will mention it as a holiday or celebration. I found some info on the web too.
Does anyone remember a good game that is typical for Armenia?

Khorovats is great!... Artem Mikoyan... awesome!!! I think I even have one of the prototype toy planes in my house...
I found out that the local hockey team uses Khachaturian's saber dance as an opening ... for their games. I will get that in as well.

They might ask you why every Armenian's last name ends with (yan or ian )
what will you tell them ? my own little girl asked me this question

Yan ending means "a son of", doesn't it? If not I will really want to know. I remember the etymology is Persian. Or maybe I am wrong. My son's carry my maiden Armenian name as their middle name. And they are very proud of it!!! I am off too. Thus, I wanted to finish my report for Armenia. I volunteer at the local elementary school every Thursday. And I always talk about Armenia and how wonderful the people and land is. You know, no matter how down things might be in Armenia I still believe that the country of Hayastan is bountiful with the most curious, most fascinating and intelligent people on Earth. Must be the closeness to the sun!!!

Mila , You can show them pictures of Khachcars and explain how uniqe they are in Armenian history , also I can send you by email beautiful pictures of young boys and girls taken in Armenia , in Armenian costumes dancing if you wish
