Applications are invited for a Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) funded
Ph.D. position in theoretical particle physics (lattice Quantum
Chromodynamics). The project will begin in October 2006 and is funded for
3 years. Applicants should have a II.I honours degree in Theoretical
Physics, Physics or Mathematics before commencing.
Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) is the theory of the strong nuclear force and
plays a pivotal role in our understanding of the Standard Model of
particle physics and searches for new physics. The group at TCD uses both
theoretical calculation and numerical simulation to explore particle
physics and the dynamics of QCD.
The project will build on a newly-established collaboration with
researchers at DESY Zeuthen, near Berlin involving a number of exchange
visits. The student will also be able to attend a three-week summer school
during the first year of study and a major international conference in the
third year.
