Human Rights and Governance Grants Program

Internship Initiative

The Human Rights and Governance Grants Program (HRGGP) and the Network Scholarship Programs (NSP) of the Open Society Institute (OSI) announce call for applications for the Internship Initiative. The aim of the program is to support the development of the next generation of human rights activists. Since its launching last year the Internship Initiative supported six individuals in their internships in six well-known human rights organizations.
  • What is the Internship Initiative?
The Internship Initiative is a one-year program to provide support for a paid internship in human rights organizations for students interested in pursuing their future career in the human rights field1. This year the Internship Initiative will offer up to 12 placements in international and local human rights organizations on a competitive basis. The financial support for the intern will be provided by the hosting organization as a salary payment, commensurate with experience, job responsibilities and existing pay structure within the organization. In addition to the salary, the hosting organization will also provide funds for travel and visa related expenses. All internships are starting from October 2006 and will last 12 months.
  • Hosting organizations
This year the Internship Initiative offers placements in 12 outstanding international and local human rights organizations: Access to Information (Bulgaria), European Human Rights Advocacy Center (UK), Estonian Patients Advocacy Association (Estonia), Georgian Young Lawyers Association (GYLA), Hungarian Civil Liberties Union (Hungary), Hungarian Helsinki Committee (Hungary), Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights (Poland), Interights (UK), Memorial of St. Petersburg (Russia), Mental Disability Advocacy Center (Hungary), Public Interest Law Initiative (Hungary), Stichting Russian Justice Initiative (Russia).

  • How to apply?
In order to apply for a position, applicants should submit by email:
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV), including educational, professional and other experience relevant for the position;
  • cover letter explaining the interest in the particular position and any future plans that may be relevant for the position;
  • for some positions, selected candidates may be asked to submit additional documents and/or participate in an interview process as required by the hosting organizations.
