Share your views of the U.S.
Hello ,
I am new to the forum and thought I would introduce myself. My name is Leanna, and I live near Seattle, Washington. I am currently doing research on how the people of the world, view Americans, and the culture of the United States. I am looking for candid views from non-Americans living outside the United States, and I would love to have some of you participate.
If anyone were interested in expressing his or her views on this subject I would ask them to please visit my website at the link below. You will be able to answer questions right on the website (in English, Spanish, or French), or visit the "Contact Me" page if you have any further questions. Also, be sure to visit my "Mailbag" page to see some of the comments I have received so far. I hope to hear from you soon.

Re: Share your views of the U.S.
Thanks acid. If anyone would like to discuss their views here rather than answer the specific questions on my website, that would be good also. If anyone is interested, they can view my site to get a better idea of what I am looking for and any comments would be welcomed.

Re: Share your views of the U.S.
Hi elle,
I read the list of responses on your site. It was very entertaining, thanks
Some people from Europe found your suburb life rather odd, and I have to agree with them. It was the most unusual thing I've seen in the US. People never walking anywhere in their life, living in mansions but never doing anything fun, with very few social activities (usually just some phoney book clubs and such). Schools are also weird and some are in very sad conditions, unlike universities which are among the best in the world. Your cities are totally different from suburbs, with absolutely different kind of people living there. Overall I have mixed feelings

Thanks HolyMelody, and nice avatar by the way - so peaceful.
Entertaining is right! I can't help but smile each time I read through my mailbag page. There have been a lot of thoughtful, and insightful responses, along with extremely witty and clever comments which I love receiving as well. Is it all right for me to add your above comments to my site? Please let me know, and if you get a chance maybe you could answer a few of the questions listed on my "research questions" page.
Thanks for your post! -elle

Well I did try to answer those question. But then, I think I'm not your statistical average Armenian and wouldn't like to represent Armenia's opinion in any way
What lesson would I like America to learn from Armenia? None, God forbid.
What do I admire in American culture? I don't admire anything really. Well I sort of like your big cities, like NY, Chicago. That's pretty much it.
Have I ever felt welcome in the US? I've never felt welcome anywhere, including (but not limited to) the US.
So you see, I'd like to help you, but my answers are all messed up
Update: OK, I did actually leave some comments on your site. I hope it'll save the world one day.

Re: Share your views of the U.S.
Oh, and obsession with religion is another thing. Of course, part of me likes to see Christians maintaining a balance against other growing religions of the world, but on the other hand all these major religions are just human zombification factories. So my other part opposes the religious extremes and extremists of all sorts.
Another thing, this Intelligent Design and Creationism stuff, being fed to children as alternative to modern biology. I couldn't believe that they actually started teaching this stuff in some schools. If things keep going the way they do, America will be the only country with nuclear power teaching Alchemy and Exorcism 101 in high schools

Thanks. It was difficult for me to stay in flight for that photograph, but I am quite pleased with the results.

I see I have you thinking about all this now, HolyMelody. I will be sure to add these to your other comments. I can just imagine daily installments, and how you will keep me in suspence, lol.

May be this is a bit off topic so I will put no objections if Acid removes this post.
My dearest Sevana! You reminded me my dearest grandfather! I've never heard from him a rude word, with one exception: if/when somebody said that Salazar (a dictator who ruled my country during more than 40 years) had done something good, he would get mad and take all the rude words from his dictionary (and what a complete one he had...). Oh my! I just realize how I miss him and how unfair death was to him not letting him live three more months for seeing his country free!
There is one thing I must say not to USA but to the so called americans (I've some american friends and they know how I think): you'll start being part of a great nation the day you stop cultivating the " We are the most powerful country in the world!" This is something you shouldn't be proud of, instead you should feel ashamed the way your leaders got and used that power!
Cheers!

Re: Share your views of the U.S.
It's kind of funny ... I was reading this tread and thinking about one thing - provocation.
Don't get me wrong elle, I have nothing against you. But a year or so ago we had similiar sort of exchange of thoughts with very friendly person from US. In the end the thoughts of some participants were interpreted differently and presented in the WashingtonPost. The author was quite rude and presented the views of our forum participants in the light which was quite disturbing.
Now, how can I be sure that you are not the next reporter willing to play with us the same game?
