National University of Ireland, Maynooth
Department of Mathematical Physics
Two funded Ph.D. Positions
Two funded Ph.D. positions in the field of topological
quantum computation will be available in the group of Dr.
Jiri Vala at the Department of Mathematical Physics,
National University of Ireland, Maynooth, starting this
September.
Our research is theoretical and focuses on topological
phases of condensed matter systems, topological quantum
computation, theory of decoherence and quantum error
correction and suppression, and fault-tolerant quantum
computation.
Expected duration of the Ph.D. study is three years and
it is fully funded. The funding includes highly competitive
salary, tuition and generous travel support. Successful
applicants are expected to conduct independent research, so
they should have a M.Sc. degree in physics or related
discipline by the beginning of the appointment. The
international applicants must in addition be fluent in
English.
To apply, please send the following documents by e-mail
to Dr. Jiri Vala at
[email protected]:
- CV (including list of publications if any),
- copies of official transcripts,
- statement of research interests and career goals, and
- contact information of three persons who can provide
letters of recommendation.
If you can not provide some of the documents (e.g. the most
recent transcripts, etc.) please submit your application
with a cover letter explaining briefly why these documents
can not be provided. The selection of candidates starts
immediately and will continue till both positions are
filled.
Maynooth is a charming university town located about
fifteen miles from Dublin City Center which is easily
accessible by public transportation. The successful
applicants will have an opportunity to participate in
vibrant scientific life of the Dublin area which includes
for example the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies,
Trinity College of Dublin, University College of Dublin,
etc.
