Level of experience is one of the most important aspects in determining salary level. There is a sizeable increase in salary as we move beyond our first years in the technical communication field. Starting salaries average in the mid-40s and move up into the 60s as our careers progress. There is a gradual progression through the following years of our work experience with average salaries moving through 70s and into the low 80s. There appears to be an earnings ceiling for many of us around $80,000 per year.
