Without going deep into technical details.

Take D80. It's a light version of D200, which is a serious pro camera.

D40x is a step forward for the D40, which is an amateur camera.

Since you're asking that question then you're suited for D40x. Take a look at oponent models from Canon, they shoot better quality then Nikon products, but if you have serious intensions save some money and by Nikon D300, it really rocks !!!

2 TasteMyLipstick > Actually, D200 is not a pro cam at all, it's a really serious but a semi-pro cam nevertheless.

Oh, really? What is the definition of a decent pro camera then?

For me is low noise, ISO up to 3200 and shutter speed up to 1/8000. Few professionals may need more.

About CCD vs CMOS. Recently both Nikon and Sony stopped using CCD technology. Both Sony A700 and Nikon D3/300 were based on CMOS technology, while their previous models like A100 and D200 are based on CCD technology.

My own experience with Nikon and Canon cameras makes me to choose Nikon, although quality of Canon D5 still amazes me.

So, no matter what kind of DSLR camera you have, Nikon or Canon or anything else, you can produce excellent images. Camera is no more but a tool. The rest is in your hands.

P.S. I was recently choosing a new DSLR for myself and came up with this one Pentax K10D.

By the way, it won the TIPA Awards in 2007 as a *Best D-SLR Expert*.

Oh, I don't care about it actually, accept it as my IMHO.

Ah, yes, I've forgot to mention,
Guys from Wikipedia and, from dpreview think the same

P.S. Why you allways try to fight me?

Fight you? Dear, now that you wrote it I can say that your ego amazes me. I have no idea who you are and I hardly ever think of your existence.
