(Senior) Economist


The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, is a global investor and advisor that is committed to promoting projects in its developing member countries that are economically beneficial, financially and commercially sound, and environmentally and socially sustainable. It does so through project financing, equity investments, debt instruments, advisory services and technical assistance. IFC mobilizes capital in the international financial markets; it’s long term debt is rated AAA by international investor’s services.

IFC’s Infrastructure Department covers activities in the power, transports and utilities sectors. The Department is searching to recruit a (Senior) Economist who will bring her/his economic skills to IFC teams involved in financing new projects and in portfolio management.

Responsibilities :
Ø Conduct micro economic analysis for new and existing IFC investments and assess the developmental impact of projects
Ø Conduct or participate in market analysis (demand and supply) of IFC investments
Ø Draft infrastructure sector analysis including issues such as industry restructurings competition, tariff-setting, legal and regulatory aspects
Ø Assess country risks and formulate macroeconomic scenarios

Qualifications :
Ø Advanced degree in economics/public policy from a leading international institution; additional academic credentials in power, energy and/or infrastructure a plus
Ø Substantial experience as an economist in one or more of the sectors of interest to the Department : power, water and utilities, transport. This experience might be acquired in the industry, consulting, governmental or research environments
Ø Strong skills and broad working experience in microeconomics and cost/benefits analysis
Ø Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) in English; additional skills in one or more of the following languages are a plus: French, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese, Arabic
