Karen, it depends what you want to do with it.
You can eat it raw, it's ok. Nothing exciting though.
The following is my favorite, see if you like it.
1 large avocado
a small can of fat-free sour cream (approx 150-200 grams)
1-2 large tablespoons of mayonnaise
2 medium tomatoes (ripe but firm)
salt, other species if you want
Get the seed out of avocado, scoop the soft part out (if it's ripe, it will be very easy). With a fork or smth like that soften untill you get an even mass. Then mix with mayo and sour cream, add the species. Then peel the tomatoes, get rid of the seeds, and cut the "outer" parts into small squares.
This can be used as a sause for taco salad, or as a dip for tortia chips, or smth like that
